About the band …
JBQ consists of British Jazz Awards rising star, Jamie on Trumpet. Tom Kincaid on Piano, Ken Marley on Double Bass, and Jack Cotterill on Drums. This fresh and exciting quartet have a vast range of experience in different styles of music and have come together to play their own mix of New Orleans street beat, swing & reggae.
The band are heavily influenced by the likes of Harry Connick Jr, Leroy Jones, Clark Terry,Oscar Peterson & Christian McBride, to name only a few. From the original New Orleans Street Beat tunes such as “The Happy Feet Blues” through to our own compositions you can hear the roots of the music we listen to.
The band members have played with such notables as Bruce Adams, Shakin Stevens, Scott Hamilton, Alan Barnes, Digby Fairweather… Playing all over the world from Europe, to Scandinavia, and as far as the US!
The band have a residency, and perform once a month at Matt & Phreds Jazz Club, Manchester.

All members of the band are extremely experienced professional musicians playing a wide range of styles at various types of events. We have a webpage, stage plan, images, sound clips and videos suitable for promotional purposes.
Jamie Brownfield, 23, hails from the village of Llanrhaeadr Y.M. in Mid Wales. He started on the cornet aged 9 playing in the local brass band and by the time he was 12 was performing jazz in public. When Jamie was 13, he formed his first band ‘The JB Quintet’ and the following year recorded his first CD ‘No Animals Were Harmed……’ A few years later he began to play with many other bands and performed at the Silverstone F1 Grand Prix Party to a crowd of over 25,000 with members of the Brit Floyd.
Jamie has now been playing professionally now for many years touring the jazz festival & club circuits in the UK & Europe, as well as backing vocalists, TV and session work.
In 2012 Jamie was awarded 1st place in the ‘Rising Star’ category of the British Jazz Awards.
Some of the festivals Jamie has performed at include: MJF (Manchester Jazz Festival), London Jazz Festival, Titley Jazz, Festival Delle Colline (Florence, Italy), Enkhuizen (Holland) Swanage and many more.
Jamie now has an ever growing back catalogue of recordings with his own bands, special projects such as ‘Reflections of Fats’ by American Pianist Jeff Barnhart, Session work for various TV & Radio recordings and played on Channel 4’s most recent series of Shameless
Jamie co runs both the Brownfield Byrne Quintet & Hot Six with saxophonist Liam Byrne, playing 1940’s Swing arrangements to Hard Bop. He has now formed his own band with some of his favourite musicians to make his own new sound, and start writing new tunes, hoping to take his career to the next level.
